Haircare, skincare, makeup and more to use this month and every month.
In celebration of February's Black History Month, I want to share some products I am a fan of and use on a regular basis.
All of these products are made by Black owned businesses and most are clean, vegan, and cruelty free, all important qualities to us at The Sustainable Stylish Life. I am excited to share my favorites with you and where to buy them. Tell me what are you loving from this list below and drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org about these and other wonderful products you’re a fan of. I love to discover new brands so don't be a stranger!
Brio Geo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask - it’s vegan and cruelty free too! I have used this mask before as a deeper conditioning treatment post sun & surf. It restores my hair to its normally soft texture. Find it here for $36.
Essentials by Edwina lipsticks are vegan and cruelty free. They're formulated with black and deeper skin tones in mind. I like her Shiraz blend, which is a deep red, berry color. Get it here for $17.99.
Oui The People Featherweight Hydrating Body Gloss is great. I love a body oil post shower! You need to get it on your skin when it's still slightly damp to get the most moisture for your skin. I rotate between this and NOW Organic Almond Oil. This one doesn’t feel heavy or oily, which is wonderful. Find it for $65 here.
Hyper was created to combat one major problem those of us with darker skin tones suffer from: melasma. As a reformed sun worshipper, avid surfer and someone with olive skin, I am ALWAYS on the hunt for ways to combat my hyperpigmentation. Hyper’s 15% Vitamin C cream is affordable and isn’t filled with harmful bleaching agents like Hydroquinone. Shop it for $36 here.
Pat McGrath is a legendary makeup artist who started her own makeup line, Pat McGrath Labs, a few years ago. She has some of the most amazing eyeshadows on the market. I like her palettes of four that make it easy to mix and blend the cohesive colors together. My pick is the Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad Fleur Fantasia for $58 here.
Laws of Nature Cosmetics Loose Setting Powder is super light and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing much at all. It comes in a variety of shades, it’s clean and talc free. Get it here for $25.
Pear Nova nail polish is a clean nail polish brand (aka without formaldehyde or parabens or other common chemicals found in more mainstream brands) that offers both traditional nail polish as well as gel options. I love grey and purple and my favorite shade is Ginzaholic for $13 here.
Unsun is a clean mineral sunscreen primer and color corrector. It’s specifically made to NOT turn your slightly darker skin with that telltale white sunscreen residue. It’s also clean and cruelty free. Shop it for $29.50 here.
Eu'genia Shea Butter is a wonderful addition to my body oil regime. My mom swears by Shea Butter for wintertime in New Jersey and I concur. I like it for my elbows, knees, heels, those super hard to get soft places. This one is made with organic Shea nuts. $12 here.
